It’s a good week for horror! We’ve got 3 new trailers for you creepy types to check out:
Slender Man originated as a Something Awful creepypasta story in a Photoshop contest in 2009 (Creepypastas are horror-related legends or images that have been copy-and-pasted around the Internet.) After that, he went viral, spawning a wealth of fanart, cosplay, and fan-fiction. Additionally, Slender Man went on to be the star of several video games, a Youtube video series, an ARG, and a phone app. He also made his way to the news, inspiring not one but two Slender Man motivated stabbings involving teens.
While a number of indie films about the character are rumoured to be in production, this film from Sony Pictures will be the first film (with the biggest budget) to drop.
Summer of ’84
The team that brought us the 80’s fueled post-apocalyptic cult classic Turbo Kid is back with a new film, entitled Summer of ’84. Releasing once again at the Sundance Festival, this film follows a more traditional 80’s theme – slashers. While there are no supernatural elements in this particular film, it still feels a bit inspired by the success of Stranger Things. Summer of ’84 follows several teenagers as they uncover the truth behind the serial killer making headlines on their local news – believed to be a neighborhood police officer.
In a similar vein to Summer of ’84, Hellraiser: Judgement follows detectives on a case to find a serial killer terrorizing their city. While the Hellraiser series has released some true stinkers in years past, this trailer looks like it may recapture some of what made the franchise awesome in the beginning. Time will tell.
What film are you looking forward to?
