It is likely that you have heard the rumors surrounding the creators behind one of the most iconic female characters in history – Wonder Woman. With the recent success of the superheroine’s first solo film, these rumors have again been bubbling to the surface. So much so, in fact, that the story of the story of Wonder Woman is getting its own film entitled Professor Marston and the Wonder Women.
Dr William Marston was not only one of the creators behind Wonder Woman, but of DISC Theory as well. DISC Theory proposes that people demonstrate their emotions through one of four behavior types: Dominance, Inducement, Submission and Compliance. Between DISC Theory and Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth, it is easy to assume that there was a BDSM aspect at play in the life of Marston and his wife Elizabeth, who also played a major part in Wonder Woman’s inception. The duo would meet a young student named Olive Byrne, who in turn was also involved in early Wonder Woman – and some believe, in the pair’s love life as well.
The movie takes a look at early ethical non-monogamy and has been touted at the “Queerest Movie of 2017.” However, not all believe the story to be 100% factual. Elizabeth Marston’s own granddaughter Christie gives her take on the relationship between the three:
