Ridley Scott, executive producer of the critically acclaimed Blade Runner 2049 reboot, announced earlier this month that another was already being planned. Blade Runner 2049 was one of those precious few reboots that was loved universally by critics, old fans and new alike. It starred Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford, who was the leading man in the original 1982 Blade Runner film.
Digital Spy spoke to Scott, who said he was hopeful to continue the franchise with a new film. “I think there is another story. I’ve got another one ready to evole and be developed, so there is certainly one to be done for sure.”
While it isn’t yet definitive, it is nonetheless hopeful. The film underperformed in the box office and netted producers an $80 million loss, but was well lauded by nearly everyone who viewed it, averaging 87% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Alas, but cyberpunk has always been a niche genre – the dark themes and bleak view of the future has yet to find mass appeal.
